Hello All

What would you be doing on a wintery day like this?

I was a good girl and got all my running around jobs done before this wintery weather started today! I had to drive into town and take care of my girlfriends and my parents cats; as they are all away on a vacation.

I`m starting to think that these two lazy fur balls may have the right idea. (It is not often that the dog shares her bed with the cat!) But before I could make my plans for the rest of the day, I had some cooking to do. So I got the slow cooker out and put on a big batch a beans to cook for the day.

I could pick up and work on the table runner. It is coming along nicely and is a great project to start and stop if you like. Or maybe I`ll work on some hearts or a bookmark or two!?!

I have finished my exchange piece for the Fringe! The theme for this year is ``Knotty Tatters`` and for the first exchange of the year we called it ``Hanky Panky``!!! I am mailing mine to the UK but do not know where I`m receiving one from. That`s the funny of it all.

Well I better stir the beans and get tatting!! The ankle is coming along well and I have an appointment on Monday with the doctor!

Hello and Happy New Year

Good morning to all in Tat Land!!!

I know it has been a while between blogs but I am finding that the more time I have on my hands; the less I get done!!! Things will be getting better now that hubby and son are now gone all day!!
I made through the holiday season with only a few set backs. Once I was moving well with the walker boot I thought I could do anything and everything. But I learned quickly that if I baked 11 dozen cookies in a day, on a ceramic floor, that I will be in bed for most for the next day!!! I also had to learn that if it didn`t get done in time for Christmas it wasn`t going to get done!! That was the hardest thing for me to learn!!

We had a nice quick holiday over all!!

Here is a picture of what I am wearing on my ankle around the house. It starts out lose and comfortable in the morning but by dinner time I am ready to ripe it off.

When I go outside (if it is snowy or icy) I wear the walker boot. But luckly the winter weather has not been too bad here is southern Ontario. Which has been great for me and getting around.

I have been doing some tatting! The little motif in this piece is from ``Tatting Patterns and Designs`` by Gun Blomqvist and Elwy Persson. I decided to join them and see what I could come up with!! I`m using size 30 thread but I`m not sure who made it.

And lastly here is a picture of my coffee table in the living room. It is starting to get filled up with my tatting, which is not a bad thing.

And yes I am as surprised as you are!!! I have not yet killed my Christmas flower!!! Amazing isn`t it!!!!

High fashion foot wear!!!

Hello one and all!!!

Well I have made it through my first two weeks of having my foot in the air and I have just received my new fashion boot for the rest of my recovery! I`m styling now!! The doctor says I can start walking on it but I think I will start off slowly. Stairs really scare me!!

Next I have a picture of some of the snowflakes I have been working on!! With much inspiration from ``The Piney Woods Tatter`` I have been doing interlocking chain-ring centers for these snowflakes!! I `m using size 10 thread with e beads and have made about 20 of them so far!!

Well that is all for now!! Time to try out this walker boot and take a tour to the other side of the bedroom!! Wish me luck!!

Hello Everyone in Tat Land

I`m doing well and can actual do some tatting too.

Here is the view visitors see when they come up the stairs of my house!!

And this other picture is my view of my poor old foot!!

This is the piece I am tatting right now. I decided to try the ``Yes U Can`` doily!! Many many thanks to Diane that Lace Love`n Librarian!! She has added (to her site) her stitch count of this doily to help with the doily work!! I couldn`t do this with your notes Diane THANK YOU!!

I am taking Diane`s advice on the 3rd round and changing the stitch count of the inner rings from 3ds to 2ds. The doily is waving a little but not to bad!! I`m using Coats size 20 thread.

Well that all for now!! I am getting a little tired and may need my afternoon nap!!

Yes it is true I have been doing some tatting!!!

But first we have a picture of the goodie I received from The Piney Woods Tatter`s blog. It was a weekend giveaway I won!!!

I can not wait to start a new project with some of my goodies! Thank you Rachel for doing your wonderful giveaways and for your caring note!!

Here we have an ornament I did 4 years ago at the first Fringe weekend attended. It is a Debbie Arnold project. That year I made more than 6 of them for X-mas gifts.

And here are 2 I just finished last week! I really do love this pattern!!

Well I must go!! Time for some laundry and more tatting!! I have much to do before Fridays surgery! Blog to you later!!

Hello to all in Tat Land

The closer the surgery becomes the busier I become! Just got the pre-op done along with the blood work. Also had to buy a special leg elevator pillow for after the operation.
But I have been able to do some knitting and tatting too.

Can you guess what these are?!?

TOE TOPPERS!!!!

I hate having cold feet and I will not be able to wear socks after Nov. 4th so I came up with these little toe toppers to help keep my toes warm!! What do you think?

Next we have the ``Magic Square``. Norm with the Fringe shared this pattern with my friend Pat and she shared it with me. I love this piece!! It is done in one pass and is easy but a challenge all in one. The rings and chains are all the same through out the piece but you really have to pay attention to where you do your joins. I did this in size 10 Lizabeth, colour autumn spice!!

And here we have some test tatting I did for Lily at ``The Eye Candy for Crafters``. Really enjoyed doing these earrings. Might have to make some for X-Mas gifts!!

Speaking of test tatting if anyone needs some done and are not in too much of a rush, I could do some for you.(That is if you trust a needle tatter!! Looking your way Jane!! Hee hee)

Hi Everyone in Tat Land

What can I say....I know I was to blog more often but this thing called life is getting in my way of blogging and tatting. Lets see first I was very busy helping with the Fringe tatting weekend. Both before and helping out with the event. Things went really well and everyone had a great time. (I have pictures of my goodies I show you shortly). Next the STRESS levels around here have been very high!!!! My job is closing down the end of October and with this I had to tell my hubby. He took the news ok. I was really hoping I would have had a new job before I had to tell him. The one I was waiting for didn`t come through.

In the end it was probably for the best I didn`t get the job as I am going in for surgery November 4th on my left ankle and will not be able to get around to well for a while!!!

I know it is alot to take in but I have been able to get some tatting done and even a little knitting too. But first some pictures of the goodies I got at the Fringes Tatting weekend!!!

I was lucky enough to win this copy of 25 Years of the Ring of Tatters.

Here are some books I treated myself to.

And of course I had to purchase some more thread!!!! The ones in the middle are HDT from Karey!!

Lastly the knitting I got done. This sweater is for a special little girl. I just have to sew on the buttons and get it in the mail!!

Thanks for letting me bend you ear for a bit. I hope I didn`t come off as being a big downer!! I know things could be worst!! And because it is Thanksgiving here in Canada I am getting off the pity train and just be thankful for my family and my wonderful friends. (That means you guys in Tat Land too!!!!!!)

I`m still here...

Hello Everyone

I know I was to be blogging more but life is getting in the way and taking up a lot of my time!! I have not even been able to tat as much as I would like!! :((((((

Between appointments with specialist (for my ankle problem), physio, work and now my son has just got his first job!!!! I feel more like a taxi than a person sometimes! And on Monday I had to go out of town to get a new brace for my ankle and also a cortisone shot. Now I just wish that the cortisone would start to work. No pain relief yet!!

I was able to tat this little doily in Lizbeth size 40 called Wild flower Garden. I love the colours in this thread. The pattern is from The Tatters Treasure Chest called Sonata.

Now this next picture you will not believe!!! You all know I am a needle tatter only, well I was looking for ideas for fund raising for the Fringe group this year and after seeing all of Diane`s beautiful podgy-ed shuttles I decided to give it a try!!!

I took them to a meeting we had for the Fringe and ended up sell some of them to the organizing members.

Speaking of the Fringe, we are now taking in registration forms for this years tatting event!! It is September 23 and 24th in Cambridge, Ont. Canada. If interested just check out their wed site.

Bestest Day!!!!!!!!!

Good Evening Everyone in Tat Land

I just had the bestest day!!!!

Yes, I did get some tatting done but that was not the reason it was the bestest!!!

Yes, Cobourg was having its wonderful waterfront festival but that was not the reason!!

I did receives some very nice gifts and did some shopping too but that is not the reason!!

Do you want to know the reason??

Well it was because Ms Fox herself came out from the city to visit meeeee!!!!!!

Nothing better than getting to spend the day with another tatter and getting to enjoy the waterfront.
We visited another tatter who had a booth in the craft tents!!

A wonderful tatter, who was nice enough to let me pick out my own beads and thread so she could tat this beautiful bling wave bracelet!! And she got it done in less than a day just for me!!

And she also gave me this lovely tatted seahorse!! With metallic threads and beads. It is one of Deb Arnolds`patterns. I just love him!! Who doesn`t like getting gifts!?!

And lastly I did get some tatting done while I was waiting for Ms Fox to arrive!! It is still a work in progress (wip). I am not a fan of doing clovers but with Fox s help and ideas I think I am doing the clovers on this ok so far!!

What do you think Fox?

What a fun filled day!!! I hope we do not what until next year to do this again!

What was I thinking?

Good Morning Everyone

It`s true ``what was I thinking``!! This little doily was tatted in Sulky quilting thread size 12wt. It is Eileen Staffords pattern called Blue Doily. In this small thread, it only measures 4`` across.

As a result of the thinnest of the thread I had to hold my needle a little different and this was what happened to it.

My poor needle is done for! It should be straight!! One doily = one needle. A little of a high price for using this thread. I do not see myself using this really thin stuff again. I have had to order a new and improved ultra thin tatting needle from my friend Rita. I hope it works better!!

And here is my pride and joy!!! It`s the doily I have been working on for about 3 weeks!! It measures 12`` across and is one of the bigger pieces I have done!! I used Coats size 30 and the patten came in one the books I got from Jane!!

I believe I am now finished 8 of my 25 motif challenge the second time around. This time I wanted to challenge myself with projects that were larger or have me learning new stitches, etc.

Good Morning

I could not believe my eyes when I went to the mail box yesterday!!! There was a package for me from Fox!!! I think she trying to kill me with kindness!!

Look at all the goodies!! Some thread she picked up in NY, beads and rings!! But the best is this 60+ year old hankie!! It is sooo beautiful!! Your right Fox they do not make them like this any more!!

And the note she wrote me, left me speechless!!!
Thank you sooo very much!!! Your friendship is the best treasure of all!!

Where has the time gone?

Hello to one and all!!

Here is a quick update of what I have been up to!

This is the new logo for the Fringe Element Tatters group!! I have been working on this for many months but now it is done!! I have tatted and re tatted this so often I am starting to have night mares of hearts and beads chasing me!! Thanks to my talented computer tech son we were able to clean up and prepare this logo for the group. It was voted in just the other day!!

Next we have the doily I have also been working on!! This one is slow going for me. The thread is Coats size 30. The needle I am using is thinner too so my poor fingers has been poked and stabbed a lot. I am off work today so I am hoping to get most of this one done today because I have something else I would like to be working on.

And here it is!! The hankie is a thrift store find. It only cost .50¢. Do you like the thread and beads I picked to go with this? Do you have any ideas of what might look better?

Hello to one and all

I hope all moms in Tat Land had a good Mothers Day!! Mine was nice and quiet!! Hubby was out of town and that gave me time to tat!!

This is the finished center table scarf. The whole edging is made up of chains only. A little different for me.

Here is a close up of the corner showing the edging better!! I found the pattern on the tatting index page but it had no name on. Only a diagram and the title name was ``gunby``. I did change the second row by added stitches to the side work. I used size 20 DMC Cebelia.

And of course my son picked me up a plant for Mothers Day and a chocolate bar. (Boy, does he know his mother or what!!)

This a new doily I am working on!! It is from one of the books I received from Jane last week! The thread is size 30 Coats. I am only on row 6 of 9 and then there is a finishing edging to it all. This is going to take me a while to do!!

Here is a question for you!! How old does something have to be, before it called vintage? I know that the lady who gave me this thread had bought it back in the early 8o`s and I am not sure if it still available. Let me know! I was just wondering!

Mail call...

Hello All

I just had to share with you what the mail man delivered on Monday!!

This package came all the way from the UK. Now it was not a surprise or anything like that because I was expecting it.

That wonderful lady we all know as Jane did me a BIG favor and picked up two collectors set of the Royal Wedding stamps. One for my hubby and one for my boss. But before the stamps were available, Jane was selling off some extra tatting books to who ever would like them. I got my name on 2 of the them and they were all mailed together.
There are alot of patterns that I can not wait to start working on from these books. Thanks Jane for all your help!!

But first I have to finish working on this piece of cloth I picked up at the thrift store of only $1.25. It measures 10``x16`` and I am using DMC Cebelia, I think the thread colour works well with the stitching on the cloth!!

Something new...

Hello to all!!

Hope everyone had a good long weekend!! For the past couple of weeks I have been working on something I had not tried before...3D tatting.

This is the first piece I did. Cup and Saucer by Roger aka Freedman of Needle Tatting site. I used Manuela size 20 thread. And of course my favour colour green. This I am counting as number 11 in my 2nd round for the challenge.

With spring here all types of bugs are waking up for me vacuum up. Lately I have seen a larger number of lady bugs then this time last year. I wonder if this means anything!? My little lady here is tatting in DMC Cebelia size 20 and the patten is by Nancy Tracy. I love her patterns!!

And the next picture is of some goodies I received from that sweetie Fox! Thank you Fox. I have not had a chance to work up anything from this stash yet but I hope to later this week.

Don`t get me wrong...

Hello to all!!

As my title says ``don`t get me wrong..`` I love my hubby but sometimes the way he says things really makes me think!!
Like this morning. As it goes I am off work today and as he is heading off to work he says`` hope you have a good time at home today!`` What does he think I do all day anyway?! It`s not like I sit around and eat candy, doing my nails and watching TV.

My list for today was:
clean the front gardens
laundry
get the garbage out
clean cat box
pick up dog poop
wash kitchen floor (the only way is the right way, hands and knees)
vacuum
make appointments for car and me (doctor)
on and on and on.....

Between these items I have also made homemade cookies and took the dog for a walk. (which is hard on me because the doctors appointment for me is to see about having foot surgery)
Ok I am done venting!! I feel a little better now!

These hearts are both done in Lizbeth size 20 thread called Summer Fun. The first is Small Tatted Heart by Betsy Evans and the other is Susan Fullers Hearts Desire.

Well I guess I should run!! (not really) Time to put the laundry on the line out side and start thinking about what to make for dinner. I am looking forward to going to work tomorrow for a break. (I clean houses by the way)

I have been tatting really.....

Hello All

Yes I have been tatting but seem to not have time to blog about it. So get ready for a long update!

First we have Sherry`s ``Curly Q`` from her book The Exquisite Collection of Tatted Butterflies #2. Done in size 20 HDT thread I picked up at the Fringes Tatting Week last September! I love working this beauty!!

Here I tatted Nancy Tracy`s March 2011 Medallion. Then I took a page from Fox and did part of the pattern on a silver center piece. They were worked with size 20 Lizbeth Leafy Greens.

This next part is also Fox`s fault. I left a comment on her blog about tatting on rings and she said that I could do it too. Well, who does she think she is. So here. Your right Fox I could do it. I guess I showed you!! (hee, hee)

I forgot to count some past items in my challenge so I am going to update my count and say that with these I am up to 10 of 25 of the challenge, 2nd time around.

I do have more but if I don`t get my butt out the door, I`ll be late for work!!

Busy busy!!

Hello all

I have busy as usual with many things!! My sons toe is looking better and he got a clean big of health after having his bone scan done. I am glad that is over with. Then we had the semi-formal to be ready for, and all went well there too. I have been doing some paper work for the Fringe and going to meets. But now all that is behind me and I am ready to tat!!

Here I have a couple of crosses made in Alkin Basak size (50) 30 thread and DMC Cebelia size 20. The patterns is from Roger at Needle Tatting site. I really liked this pattern and will be doing more crosses soon.

This is the cross pattern with a little change here and a little change there to make it a snowflake. This is made in size 20 DMC Cebelia.

When I first saw Mirandas, of Tatting Fool blog, pattern for a cardinal I could not wait to tat him!! I just had to e-mail her and she sent it to me. The big reason I wanted to make him was because of my boss!!
My boss lost her husband over 5 years ago and shortly after he died we started to be followed by a cardinal. And even now if we have been talking about Brian; then we go outside sure enough there is a cardinal singing or sitting near by.

I tatted him in size 10 South Maid. Great pattern!!

Well I am off work today and if I`m a good girl and get some house work done, I will let myself to some tatting today!

Hope you are all having a great Valentines Day!!!

These pictures are from Feb. 6th when I had some friends over for some tatting and chatting!! In the first pictures there is Pat and myself (can you tell I had a killer head ache?) Then there is Karen and lastly Sandra!! We had a blast; head ache or not!!!

I am taking part in a tatting exchange with the Fringe called `my favorite snowflake`. I have many favorite patterns for snowflakes, but I thought that seeing this exchange was going on in February my snowflake should be made up hearts!!!

Here is the pattern I used for the heart!! I am not a designer and do not claim that someone has not done this kind of heart before me!!

Flower Heart

Abbrivations: R = ring Ch = chain cl = close
rw = reverse work DNRW = do not reverse work

R - (ds,p) ds 7x`s total of 7 picots cl, rw.
Ch - 20 ds cl, join to 5th picot from large ring.
Ch - 5 ds cl DNRW
R - (ds,p) ds 3x`s cl DNRW
Ch - 5ds cl, join to the 3rd picot from larger ring. DNRW
Ch - 20 ds cl. join to the top of the first ring. Tie and hide ends.

This is fast little heart and I hope I did alright writing it out. Please enjoy!!

I love getting surprises and even better when they come in the mail.

I am taking part in a tatting exchange and have been waiting for an over due exchange item to arrive. But in todays mail there was a real treat.

Sherry and Piccadilly sent me a gift for the heirloom bonnet I sent for Piccadilly. The threads are beautiful and I can not wait to to get tatting with them. But not just any pattern will do for these special threads!!! Thank you so much!!!

I have received a comment and e-mails from a Sandy D. but she is not getting my e-mails to her!! I have tried three times and the messages are not getting through. So I guess this blog entry is for Sandy D.

The edging pattern is available at the link above. If it works!!!

I used a 9 inch cotton hankie and attached the lace as I tatted it. I make my own hankie by just sewing a tight zig zag stitch and cutting away the extra fabric. After lace is on the hankie fold it in half put the two fold side corners together and tack. The open corners with the lace, I sandwiched the ribbon in the middle and tacked it. I hope you can follow this (clear as mud)! Here is the poem that goes with it.

At first a hankie-small and white,
Folded square and stitched just right,
A baby bonnet was made of me,
So a family heirloom, I could be.

Worn home from the hospital or christening day,
I`m pressed with care and packed away.
When the lovely bride needs something old,
They`ll snip my threads and I`ll unfold.

On the wedding day this gift of joy,
Will even suit a baby boy:
Also one day he too will marry,
And the hankie will be his brides`s to carry.

Time for something new!

Well, I have some tatting to share with you today! First we have two motifs from Lyn Morton`s book called Tatting Patterns. This book has great motifs in it!! The one in the metal ring is called Simplicity and the other is called Elegance. Both were done in Altin Basak (50) on a size 8 needle. The motif in the ring; I am counting as my first of my next 25 motif challenge.

Next some of you might have seen this on other blogs. It is the new pattern from Fox called Abigail. I also used Altin Basak (50). This is one I am going to do again.

I am also going to count this motif in the challenge. #2
But I think the next time it will be in a larger thread. And hopefully I will not do the same mistake as I did in this one. If you look closely I missed a picot at the bottom right side. Ooooops!! This cold weather and being a house cleaner has done a number on my poor old hands!! I`ll blame that for my mistake!! (hee hee)

Hello Everyone

I know it has been a while between blog enters but when you fall behind in one thing in life, everything starts to fall back too!! So get yourself a cup of tea and I will update you with things in my little part of Tat Land.

First, the craft show I did at the end of November went very good. I made more then last year but it was cold out!!! I also taught someone to needle tat!! She liked it so much that she has shown someone else to tat and this person self taught herself to shuttle tat!!

Next we have some goodies a received in cards from other tatting friends from `The Fringe` guild.

This is from Sylvia. After I saw it I had to go out and buy some bracelets and try this idea out for myself.

I used a patten from the book Tatted Snowflakes by Vida Sunderman. The thread is size 20, HDT from Karey Solomon that I got in September at the tatting weekend.

The next is from another tatting friend, Marg.

I did do some other tatting over the holidays but wrapped it up and gave it away before I got to take a picture of it.

Last but not lest. This is Mary Konior`s small tatted cross from the book Tatting with Visual Patterns. It is in DMC size 20 thread. I love doing her pattens!!

I am going to try to keep this blog up better in 2011 and I am going to restart the 25 Motif Challenge again and try out new stitches and things.

Hello Everyone

I know it has been a while. Last time I blogged, I was waiting for some thread to arrive. Well it did but because it was nothing wonderful, so I didn`t blog about it. It was just some size 10 DMC Cebelia, in white, dk green and burgundy. My girlfriend Pat is having a craft show coming up the end of November and first weekend in December and I have been busy getting things made for the sale!!

First we have three, of some 9 bookmarks I have made in Lizbeth size 20 threads. Pattern is by LaRae Mikulecky called Lacy Bookmark. I love doing this one and it looks great in all thread colours.

Of course you have to have tree and wreath ornaments to sell.

I have tatted over 2 dozen snowflake ornaments. They are a pattern by Sharon Briggs called Beaded Snowflake. I did different types with less picots and different beads and pearls and colours of thread.
The angel is a Carolyn Groves on Georgia Seitz site. I love this little lady. All of these are made with the Cebelia threads.

Next is Rachel Jacksons`Poinsettia/Star Flower Earring pattern. The glitter is nail polish I had. I think it adds just enough glitter.

With all this Christmas stuff to think about, there was one song that would not leave my mind until I tatted `Hippy`here. I think you can guess what that song was!! Thanks Jane for this great pattern and for getting the song out of my head!! LOL

Last but not least I came up with this table decoration to hold your knife, fork and spoon on the dinner table. They just need some stitching on the edge and maybe some tatting added. What do you think? The only thing is to make sure that my guests don`t think they are for them to take. They are just for decorating!!!

Hello

I have been waiting for an order of thread to arrive and when it did not arrive on Tuesday I took it as a sign that I should tat the edging on the hankie and make another baby bonnet.

My mother is going to the baby shower on Saturday and I was sitting on the fence if I should make this or not. But seeing that time allowed it, off I started.

So here it is!! The first one I made when out in the mail the other day. I am also going to share the poem that goes with this Heirloom Hankie.

Heirloom Hankie

At first a hankie small and white,
Folded square and stitched just right,
A baby bonnet was made of me,
So a family heirloom, I could be.

Worn home from hospital or christening day,
I'm pressed with care and packed away.
When the lovely bride needs something "old",
They'll snip my threads and I'll unfold.

On the wedding day this gift of joy,
Will even suit a baby boy;
Alas he too will marry,
And this hankie will be his bride's to carry.

Well, what does one do, on holiday Monday, after eating too much turkey on Sunday?!?

Tat of course!!!!!!

When I first laid my eyes on this Lizbeth thread called Autumn Spice (size 20), I knew what pattern I wanted to do with it! Mary Konior`s Spinning Wheel glass mat from her book Tatting with Visual Patterns!! It measures about 5 inches across.

Next up we have a little crochet piece I saved. It came to me from an older lady who wanted me to finish the larger piece for a table cloth. She gave me all her crochet threads and said I could do what I liked with it. Little did she know her daughter wanted to larger piece because her mother had done it and did not care if it was finished but just cleaned up a little. So I carefully cut away some of the unfinished work and was able to leave her with a table cloth about 4`x4`. I got this little piece (15 inches x 18 inches) and finished the edges for a table mat for my dinning table!!

So that is what I did with my Monday off. Not to bad!! And you are right if you guessed we will be having left over turkey for dinner tonight!!!!

Morning!!!

I was hoping to get these last pictures posted earlier but we had a rough weekend (son was in the hospital for a spell) and now I have a lovely cold to top things off.
So on with the show!!!

These first couple of pictures are of raffle prizes I won. From them I have many X-mas gifts planned!!

And of course I did some shopping!! I love HDT, don`t you?

I didn`t just teach but did get to take a class from Kaye and I was able to finish this bracelet in the class time. Always love it when that happens! I am still working on Susans`napkin ring holder. Hope to be finished it soon!

Now do not get the wrong idea. Just because I purchased a shuttle it does not mean I am going to give up my needles. This shuttle was made special for the Fringe for its 5th Anniversary and it was so beautiful I could not pass it up. It will be a great keep sake.

Well that is all I have from the Fringe Tatting weekend!! I have other things to share but I need a cup of tea and maybe a nap. I`ll post what I have been up to another day.

One surprise after another

Hello there!!!

Well, I am home from Cambridge and have caught up on my sleep and am ready to share with you my great weekend!!
It was full of one surprise after another!!!

First, it always a welcome surprise when you see just how happy people are to see you again.
And there is aways neat surprises in the goodie bag you get when you arrive.

I love seeing what the vendors brought with them. I love shopping for new threads and books!! Many of the vendors stepped up and brought extra with them as one of the vendors could not make it this year.

The tatting class I did went surprisingly well. I must thank Pamela of Needle Tatting and Other Nonsense for letting me use her Cameo pattern for the class. Many of the students were able to finish their piece and were very pleased with themselves. It made me feel really good to hear -I think I got it! and -I have learned so much from you this weekend. Also to see them sharing with others what they made in my class. It leaves you with a good feeling!!!

But the BIGGEST surprise came on Saturday afternoon. I was getting ready for an afternoon class when I was called over by Ruth, only to have someone stand up and say- HI it`s ........FOX!!! This was the first time we got to meet face to face. We did try earlier this year but plans fell through. I had no idea she was coming out!!! And she wanted me to show her some needle tatting stitches. She made my whole weekend when she told me that she only came out because she know I was going to be there. That blew me away!!! Thank you so much for that!!

I have other pictures to show you but did not want to have this blog entry go on for pages, so I will share the pictures of the raffle winnings and purchases I did in a few days!!

I did have a big surprise when a got home. My boys had vacuumed the house and had all the dishes washed up. WOW!!!!

And of course the cat missed me, I think? I believe the look on her face is saying-just because your home does not mean you are getting your craft chair back!

Hello Everyone in Tat Land

These last few days my mind has been fulled with the excitement of this up coming weekend in Cambridge for the Fringe Tatters tatting weekend. I always look sooooo forward to this time but last week I received a little bad news. One of the teachers was in a car accident and is on doctors orders to be off her feet for 6 or more weeks. So the guild has a substitute teacher coming in to do something with her class. Well, I know this` sub` and I am not sure if she is up to the challenge!! She is a nice enough person but I know she as never taught needle tatting before!!!

Have you guessed who the sub teacher is? Yes, that is right. It is ME!!!!! So I have been busy trying to come up with different techniques to teach on Saturday morning. I have been told that some of the students would have just had their first needle tatting class on Friday. So I have come up with a range of items with hopes that there is something of everyone. I really would like to thank Pamela Needle Tatting and Other Nonsense for her permission to use her Cameo pattern for teaching.

So I am asking everyone out there to keep their fingers crossed and send me good thoughts this weekend!!!

Hello Everyone

WOW!!!! What a weekend! We had beautiful weather for the wedding on Saturday!!

This first picture is of my hair with the clip I made. It took the girl at the salon about one hour to put all the curls in. And it took me about two hours to brush them out on Sunday so I could wash my hair. I am luck to have any hair left on my head!!

This is an over view of the tent area where the wedding and reception took place. It was on the grooms family farm.

And this is the bride signing her life away. With the groom to the left and best man in the middle.

I`m just kidding about signing your life away. They made a lovely couple. And I am sure they will have a long happy life together!!!

Next on my calender is the tatting weekend in Cambridge with the Fringe Tatters on the 24th and 25th this month! I always look forward to this weekend. We have so much fun and of course the shopping and classes are great!

Baby bonnet and Sweater

Good Morning Everyone

I know what you are thinking! You have seen this before but there is a twist to this hankie. It`s magic.

Folded just right. Stitched here and there. Then some ribbon added.

It has become a baby bonnet!!!! There is a very cute poem that goes with this but I am going to save that for later. I have one more bonnet to make for a baby that is not arriving until later this year!!!

I was also able to finish Pat`s hankie this weekend. Hope she likes it!!

And this is the baby sweater my mother asked me to make. I still have the bonnet and booties to knit. But will likely start them on Saturday on the long drive to the nieces wedding.

Well must run!! Late start for work today, so I have just enough time for a cup of tea and an english muffin. Then go go go!!!

Good Morning Everyone

It surprises me how quickly time goes by. This end of summer has been very busy around this house! Everything seems to be going on all with-in a short time span.

*August 21 Had a great family bbq. The only thing was, we did get some rain but I could not control that!!! Hubby was great. He talked to my uncles and cousins. He did a wonderful job at cooking the food and most important he made sure that my drinky poo did not get empty!!! Good man!!!!!!

*We had a funeral to go to on August 24 for a friends father.

*On the 28th we went to a party for a 25th wedding anniversary.

*My son and his girlfriend has been wanting to get together more lately, so that means a lot more time driving on the highway.

*School is starting soon (September 7th). So that means more shopping!!

*Wedding for hubbys`niece is coming up (September 11th).

And I have the Fringe Element tatting weekend coming on September 24th and 25th to get ready for. I need to take inventory of my books and threads so I do not over buy from the vendors..... Who am I kidding? Is there such a thing as over buying when it comes to tatting supplies? I didn`t think so!!!!

I have been doing a little tatting. This is a hair clip that I would like to wear for the wedding. I removed the old beads and added tatting to the black velvet base.

My dress is black and I am planning to wear a camel coloured scarf over my shoulders. The pattern is not really a pattern. It is stitch count from one person, a lay out of stitches from someone else and some monkeying around by me to make it work. I have used DMC Cebelia sizes 30 for the black and size 20 in the beige.

I have also made a pair of earrings and pendent to wear but I need your help.

I do not know which chain to wear with the pendent.

Black or Gold.... What do you think?

Hope is all well in your part of Tat Land!! I am in need of a cup of tea and have to get my butt going with that inventory. Good thing I am off work today!!!

Long time no tat :(

Hi Everyone

I am still around but have been getting ready for the family bbq this weekend being hosted by me. As things stand we have about 30 people coming. We provide the hamburgers, sauage and hot dogs with all the fixings and the rest is pot luck. We always have a lot of food and fun!!!

So this week the house work as been first priority. I did get the invite to my hubby`s niece wedding framed. I hope they like it!!!

I also re-framed my wedding invitation (store sample) for the bridal store and will do them as custom orders.

I have pulled out my other needles (knitting) and am working on an outfit as a gift for a November baby. I`ll get some pictures a little later and share them with you.

Well that is about all from this part of Tat Land. Hope everyone is having a great summer!!

That`s right the word got out that I was tatting on hankies and just see all the goodies I have received!

This first collection is from one of my cleaning customers. She is a wonderful lady who came to Canada as a war bride from Ireland and just had her 80th birthday. The hankies in the box are pure Irish Linen. I cann`t wait to work on them!!!

This next group is from a friend of a friend. She did some cleaning and came up with these for me.

This lovely one is my best friends and she has asked me to tat on it for her. Not sure you can see it but the lacy corner has a light green thread colour. So I think I will use green thread for the edging.

I have been doing some tatting. This WIP edging will be going around a wedding invitation for a September gift. My hubbys niece is getting married and one of their gifts will be a framed invitation and a gift card for their new home!! I am hoping to have the gift finished by the end of the week and I`ll show you the pictures then.

I have shaken the family tree to see which nuts will be coming to the family bbq in August, which I am hosting and there is so much to do!! My father and I have been working on the family tree and it is just about done. Then there is the housework to do. I rip my house apart and give it a really good cleaning. Yes I am the biggest nut in the family (I think)!!!

I am not a cry baby....

Just because I am still tatting on hankies does not make me a cry baby! Does it!?!

I have just finished these two hankie and just have to press them and package them for the bridal store. I have noticed lately that a few tatters have been tatting edges for hankie too and that they tat the edging first then sew it on. I was wondering if I am doing my hankie correctly? I attach the lace as I am tatting it. Maybe its because I am using a basic pattern or that I am a needle tatter. I like to use the KISS method myself. (Keep It Simple Silly) If the pattern is to detailed it will take to long to do and I will never make any money that way.

We have had a break from the hot humid weather here in southern Ontario and are greatly for it. It is hard to tat when your hands swell with the humid and the fan keeps blowing the thread around! I hope to get some tatting done today. I am off work and just dropped my son off at his on-line girlfriends house for their first face to face meeting. I am a wreck and need to keep myself busy or I will go crazy. (I`ve been told its a short drive!!)

Can it be to hot...

Hello Everyone in Tat Land

Can it be to hot to tat. Well maybe not the tatting itself but pattern following. When you are uncomfortable it is hard to think of anything else than being cool. We do not have air conditioning at home, so I try to think about the cleaning customers, we have the next day, who have A/C. So I can look forward to work, in a small way.

I think my cat has the right idea here. Sleep when you can. I have had a hard time sleeping at night. I know, it is not the heat but the humidity. (Throw in a hot flash or two). I sometimes feel like screaming!!!!

I did get some tatting done before the weather turned so hot. I hope you can see these hankies ok. I was so happy to get them finished and packaged for the bridal store. I had forgotten to take their picture before the packages were closed.

I would love to start tatting on these white hankies I just received from Handy Hands but with the heat, I would be washing my hands every 5 minutes and that would add a lot of time to making them.

I just could not help myself. I went back into the thrift store the other day and I found more treasure. I picked up these hankies with blue stitching on them for 4/$1.00. Who could pass that up?

Hello Everyone in Tat Land

Yes it is Canada Day here and our town does not hold back with the celebrations!!!! We have a 4 day waterfront festival. Fire works on the 1st! Skydivers and music in the band shelter. With art tents, craft tents, market place and most important beer tents. I do admit I do enjoy a nice cold one on a hot day but I do cut it with ginger ale. I believe it is called a Shanty!?!

I am still tatting on the hankie treasures I had found at a thrift store and will show you in a day or two before they go to the bridal store. Right now it is a little hard to tat because......

I just did my nails and I cann`t do a thing with them. Right now I am typing very carefully!!! LOL

What is she doing posting on a Friday?

I know, I know. I should be at work today but I`m not. My boss`s son is getting married today so no work for Kelly!!! This is both good and bad (mostly good). First the bad was cleaning 5 house on Thursday, then I cleaned my parents (as they are coming home from holidays) and last but least my house. Now for the good, this means no work Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday!!!!!! We just do not have customers that fall on the beginning of that week. I`m counting this as my summer holidays. It just will not happen again.

The other bad was that I had another slip and fall. It made working this week fun to say the least. But with time off I should be much better before work on Wednesday next week.
On Thursday I visited some of our local Thrift shop. I am tatting edgings on hankie to sell at the local bridal store. On my first visit I didn`t come across a lot of hankies but I could not past up these doilies. They cost me anything from .50 cents to $1.50 each. Not to bad. They do need a good washing before I tat. Maybe some will be Christmas presents!?

I normally grocery shop on Saturdays but I would like to sleep in a little this weekend so I shopped this morning and came across this napkins at another thrift store. And yes the price does say 6/$1.50. These are not really napkins in my mind because they only measure 10x10. More like a hankie size.
Then in the same store I found this treasure!!!!! 6 linen napkins for $8.00. Really linen. I cann`t wait to wash these and start tatting on them!!!!!!!! They measure 11x11 inch.

Sounds like all I have been doing is shopping!!! But I have been doing a little tatting too. This is one of the finished hankies for the bridal store. I was thinking of pricing it at $25.00. What do you think? It took about 2 hours to tat. I used Lizbeth size 20 thread.
Well time for a cup of tea and get washing up my finds and start looking for some patterns.

Yes it is amazing what one can do when off work for the day and a Tuesday too!!!!

I made lunches, let the dog in and out all day, vacuumed main floor, have done two blog postings and took a messy craft room from this.....

scary isn`t it!!!!!!!!

To this wonder of clean. Plus I know where things are too!!!!

And of course, I just didn`t start the invention (with tatting) but I finished it!! I hope the bride and groom like this gift from my boss. Most of all I hope my boss likes it.

Well I must go and start dinner and have a cup of tea. A wonder women`s work is never done. LOL

Good Morning Everyone

Yes I have been shopping but this is shopping with a reason!!!

I have been asked to frame a friend son`s wedding invitation and yes she would like tatting added to it. It is a cream invite and I thought the dark brown fabric would look the best. Then some pearls and flowers. I will take a picture of the finished piece and share it with you all.

I also picked up some crystal beads, charms and findings for some necklaces I am hoping to have finished for September.

While I was out I stopped at the Value Village and found this piece of lace. Not sure what I will do with it but I could not resist!

What would you made with it? I would be interested to hear!!

Hello Everyone in Tatland

First off I must say ``that I am NOT a designer``. This past weekend I was sitting in my craft room with nothing in mind to tat. My hubby was away, up north helping a friend out. My housework done and tubs of thread looking at me, wanting something to be made of it.
So I took a deep breath and jumped in with two feet. I came across a vintage edging pattern and with a little change here and there I came up with this! Not an edging anymore but a necklace. This was a brave move for me. I am the type that sticks with a pattern and would not think about changing it!!!

But things get better. I took this new necklace with me to work and stopped at a little bridal shop and she is interested in selling some tatted items!!!!

My first question for you is what price do you put on items like this.....I used Lizbeth size 20 and it took about 2 hours to make. I do have plans to make earrings to go with the necklace. I never charge what I should!!!

Also I purchased these two hankies for only $1 each and am not sure if I tat the edging first and then sew it on or attach it as one tats...
What do you do....

Any help would be great.

So are you sick of me yet.....

I chickened out and didn`t do Jon`s bookmark and did a pattern by LaRae Mikulecky called Lacy Bookmark! The thread is size 20 Lizbeth Spring Garden. Your can also see here that I completed my bracelet.

Also I received my exchange item in the mail on Monday! The Fringe was doing this exchange and I was surprised when the name I received to the make something, was to go to Australia!!! I was doubly surprised the see that my item was from Australia! I received a card with a tatted flower on it and some small flowers and a very beautiful bobbin lace bookmark! The bookmark is so fine I may not use it!!!

Well that is all for now! I must get ready for work.

Hello People of Tatland

I still can not import pictures on the main computer in the house to my blog. So I have had to put pictures on a memory stick and use the laptop so I hope this works!!!!

Let see, first up I have finished the beaded necklace pattern by Nina Libin in white size 20 thread. I am still working on a pattern for earrings to go with the necklace.

I have also been doing some more of Pams cameo pendants for some tatting friends of mine. I also gave her slave bracelet pattern a go. I must say for some reason this pattern gave me a few problems but after 3 tries I got it.

And I have been very selfish and have tatted two thing for me. Who do I think I am!!! I used Nina Libin pattern for the anklet in Lizbeth thread size 20.and I am almost finished this bracelet in Lizbeth size 20 colour called Pistachio Green Lt.

Well that is about it for now. After I finish this bracelet I have plans to do Jon`s Overlapping Chains Bookmark for one of our customers I clean for. She just had a knee replaced and is laid up.So I thought it would cheer her up. I take its picture and post it before I give it to her. I hope. Looks like this set up for blogging worked so you may start to get sick of hearing from me now.

Hello to everyone in Tatland!!!

I have not forgotten you but I am having trouble with the computer and can not import pictures into my blog!!!

I have been tatting and gardening and school reports and helping my son get his first job and..... If I don't stop I could go on forever!!!

Just wanted to touch base and hopefully we will have the computer working soon.

I know, I know. But I can explain......

I know it has been a while between blog postings but life with a teenager and cleaning for seniors has taken its toll on me these past few weeks. Also a birthday party for my mother-in-law. About 3 weeks ago we had one of our dear seniors past away and a little later that week my teenage son was punched by someone at school. (Lets just say it was below the belt!) Then the birthday party that my sister in laws started to plan was handed over to my husband and I. But now I have all this behind me and I can get back to doing something I love!!!!

This is Pam's pattern I am still doing and enjoying!!! This set is made with size 30 thread DMC. I am taking part in the Fringes' Tatting Exchange and this lovely set is on its way to Australia. I hope she likes it.

This next piece I am also enjoying doing. It is from the "Tatting with Visual Patterns" by Mary Konior book that I received in my last order from Handy Hands. Not sure how big I'm going to make it. We will have to wait and see.

Here is what I have been up to!

Morning Everyone in Tat Land

As you can see I am still doing some jewelery pieces from Pam Quevedeo of Needle Tatting and Other Nonsense, the Cameo Pendent pattern.

The light green one is made from Kreinik Metallics thread size #4 braid. And the other two are made in Altin Basak size 50 (30). The last two are going to be gifts for my nieces. It is nice that the same type of piece and be a gift for a 15 year old and an 8 year old.

This pattern is also Pams'. It is her scarf pattern. I have asked her what she thinks about the bracelet. I have the feeling that it looks stressed. Maybe my picots should be bigger (the center joins) or maybe I should have used a smaller tatting needle?!?! The thread is DMC size 30 and I used a number 7 needle.

On this pendent I added a metal heart to the middle and am planning on giving it to my girlfriend this afternoon at a spice party I am going to today.

Hoping that she doesn't read this blog update before I give it to her!!

I would like to thank everyone who had kind words and helpful advise about my sun burn. The vinegar really worked well and took the sting away. Thank Victats. Burn is gone now and a little brown colour remains. Our weather has changed a lot in the past week. A lot more rain and cooler temps.

I picked up my order from my sister. I know the colours may not be the most colourful but for me they are golden. White, ecru and black in size 20 in a good quality thread is hard to come by in my neck of the woods. And I can't wait to try a pattern from my new book "Tatting with Visual Patterns" by Mary Konior.

I will go now, so I can start tatting. But which pattern to start with?!?!

Hello Everyone

I have been a good girl and have stayed out of the sun for two days. So that means I have some tatting to show. This is made from size 20 DMC thread and it is totusmel.blogspot.com cameo pendant pattern from Pam's site also know as Needle Tatting and Other Nonsense.

I enjoyed that pattern so much I did these earrings, in size 60 thread. I think they came out very pretty.

Then I went a little crazy and tatted the cameo in HDT size 20 that I bought last year from Karey Solomon at the Fringe Element tatting weekend in Cambridge, Ont.

This last one I tatted in the same HDT thread but instead of 8 repeat of Victorian stitch I only did 6 repeats. I have not decided if I will put a charm in the middle or not.

I am enjoying this pattern so much that I think there will be more to be seen in the next few days. Thanks Pam for the pattern.

Hello Everyone in Tat land

I, as many of you in Southern Ontario, have been enjoying some very unseasonal warm weather. Not just nice blue skies but warm breezes and an itch to do some outside work. Well I did spend some time out of doors on Friday and Saturday and I have the sun burn to show for it.
Believe me I wish I was not working the garden but doing some tatting. It still surprises me how quickly my skin burns these days. I am from the generation that would sun bath for hours (with baby oil on my skin) and the local radio would do a *BEEP* so you would know when to turn over. Not now a days. So today is going to be spent inside tatting. But I'm not sure what I'm going to work on. I did do some shopping a couple of weeks a go so maybe something with beads, again!! Lol
I am looking forward to Wednesday because I will be picking up my order from Handy Hands. I had the order sent to New Jersey and my sister is picking it up this weekend and I can get it from her when she returns to Canada. I'll share a picture with you of my purchases later.

That is about all for now. I'm going to go and put some lotion on my burn and get tatting. Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend.

Hi Everyone

Yes I am still working with beads. With last week being March break for the students and being busier than I thought I was going to be I only have a little tatting to show. I have started a necklace set for a bride but have only done about 3".

And I still do not know who I am by tatting this dark green bracelet for myself but something must have snapped in me and maybe because my birthday is coming. I just went for it. It is tatted with Lizbeth size 20 and has about 250 beads.

Monday, a girlfriend and I are heading out of town to do some shopping at a little beads store I know of. Who knows what I will come home with but I'll share them with you on Tuesday.

Oh, I received the report from the MRI I had and it came back stating my left knee has arthritis in it. Goodie, goodie for me. I have to look into some physic and just go from there.

I have finally been able to get some tatting done. My hubby was away for a week of golf in the great USA and just got back on Saturday morning. Now, yes I did miss him, but the week was a little different without him here. Less dishes to do, less laundry, less messes to clean up but more running the roads with my son. He is home now and I can get some tatting done. And the week before I was busy with an appointment with the hospital having a MRI done on my left knee.

I came across this pattern by Nina Libin on Georgia Seitz site and was a little intimidated with all the beads. I tested the pattern with this little piece first.

And I liked it. So I decided I would make a bracelet doing 6 beads on each side and this is what I came up with.

Now, I'm liking this pattern so much I jumped in with both feet and made this necklace and bracelet set. I did just stick with one colour of beads but maybe I'll be braver in the future to do it as the pattern is done. We'll see. The necklace has 550 beads and the bracelet 238.

I have some white thread beaded and ready to go for Tuesday. And away we go.

My copy of Sherry new book just arrived today in the mail and I can't wait to start tatting some spring things!!! I also received this HDT because I was one of the first 5 to order her book and this was the bonus. YAY!!

I was also one of the lucky ones to have test tatted for Sherry's new book and "Curly Q" was what I tatted for her. And for doing this I received this HDT called "Tutti Frutti" size 80.

Also this week I tatted this doily called "Loop-di-Loop" by Hartmut Hass. It is tatted in DMC size 30 and was a little bit of a challenge for me but it was not going to bet me. I like this doily now. Now that it is done.

Hi Everyone

I'll explain the title of this blog entry. My girl friend Pat as been on my case about the fact that my site has not been updated for a while. Well sorrrrrrry!!!!

One weekend was busy with a Jann Arden concert remember Pat....(the concert was amazing!!!!) Then the next weekend was taken up with a wonderful book that I read in two days. That's a record for me. Then after that I have been doing some tatting. On Sunday and Monday I finished this doily called "Saturn Ring" in size 20 Royal thread. It measures about 10.5".

I also have started tatting some hearts for my membership for the tatting guild. The fee for the guild is one tatted heart a year. Last year I was able to hand in about 52 hearts and I am aiming for 75 or more this year. The Fridge Element Tatting guild will have to keep going for many, many years. I'll put together a picture of the heart when I get a few more done.

I did it!!! I finished Janes TIAS. He turned out pretty good if I may say so.

Next up...this is some silk thread a got from a raffle basket I won last September that the Fridges "Fall into Tatting" weekend in Cambridge Ontario. I didn't know what I was going to make with it until I purchased "Tea is for Tatting" book by Martha Ess.

I made this Tiny Square Teapot from her book. I have not decided which one I will make next. I really liked how the center of this is done. Not the way I thought it would until I started it. Cool!!!!

All looks good to go. LOL As you can see I have caught up and now have completed up to Day 10 of the TIAS. And I am looking forward to Wednesday. I did have a little trouble with the colour changes in Day 8 but I think it has turned out OK.

I think there is a song with these word in them. Boston I think!!! But, it has been a long time between postings. We have been having trouble with our internet supplier, but I'm back now so look out.

I hope everyone in Tat Land had a good holiday and a great New Years. For New Years I'm one of those who end up in bed asleep at 10:00 pm on the 31st. No party animal am I. This year I made it to 10:30 Woo Hoo.

The big gift I received this year was 2 tickets to a Jann Arden concert. I told my hubby not to buy tickets because the only ones we can get put me in the upper levels and that show is hard to see from there. But does he listen to me. Noooooooooooooooooo. He purchased tickets off site and paid alot more but got seats on the floor. 2nd row centre left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can wait.

I have also been doing some tatting this holiday. This braclet I just finished today and had to share with you. I'm not going to take credit for this pattern because I'm sure someone, somewhere has already made something like this in the past. It took a little longer to make but I really would like to slow down this year, when making thing. I push myself and then it is done and I am left thinking what is next. I need to enjoy the journey of making things then rushing them.

I'm going to be wearing this at a family wedding later this year. Maybe I'll come up with some earrings to go with them. Later.

Look what was waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday. My very own "Charlie Brown Christmas Tree".

My girlfriend Pat and her husband Ron dropped this off on Tuesday. Ron gets mad at me if I don't phone him and let him know when the "Chuck Brown" specials are on TV. So last year I gave him the "Charlie Brown Christmas" on DVD.

I'll have to put their Christmas gifts under this tree for Sunday; as they are coming for a Christmas lunch.

I was one of Sherrys' Prize winners this week!!!!!! I won a Work Basket magazine. I've never seen one before.

Wow What a great week of craft sales!!! I was able to help my girlfriend out a few days of the sale and made about $90.00 over the week. Not to bad. It is money I didn't have before!!!! That was by selling snowflake and a few doilies with some bookmarks. The best part was talking to people about tatting. One dear lady who can no longer work with fine threads was so happy to see the tatting that she returned one day and gave me 2 large bags of crochet cotton thread. She did not have anyone in her family who would use the thread and was happy to give it to me!!! To my surprise there was a great number of size 20 and size 30 threads in the collection!!! I'll take a picture of the threads and post it a little later.

The guild is doing a Winter Frolic tatting exchange and the dead line for having your item to the sender is not until January 2010. The lady who received my name didn't let any snow get under her feet!!!LOL I received my tatted item November 30. I still have not decided what I'm going to send to my exchange name. This tatted snowflake came to me from Nova Scotia and it is a pattern by Jane Edorall. I'm very lucky!!!!!
Well that is all for now. I am picking up an order from Handy Hands that my sister brought back from the U.S. tomorrow so I'll include pictures of the order also later.

A friend and I went shopping for some Christmas gifts and ended up a Value Village where we found these earrings. I do not know if I will wear them as is or take them apart and make two pair of earrings. They only cost $8.00 not to bad!!!

I have also been busy tatting more snowflakes for the craft show. I have about 64 snowflakes made, 10 bookmarks and 6 doilies. I hope we have good weather for the sale!!! I will have more to show later as many things are being stiffened.

Lest We Forget...

On this Remembrance Day (the 11th month, 11 day, 11 hour) I can not help but to think about a family member who gave the ultimate sacrifice in World War 1. And I would like to introduce him to you today.
This is Pte. William Haslam with the 4th Canadian Mounted Rifle Regiment out of Toronto Ontario. He was 18 when he enlisted and was shipped to France in July of 1915 but was killed in action on September 16 1916.

I (of course) never knew him but on a day like today I would like to Thank him.

Hi Everyone

I know it has been a little while between blogs but things and time just get away from me!!! I am blogging today, one because I have a little time before the family gets home and second because I just can't tat right now. It is not because I don't want to tat but I have injured my left index finger. I had a Pampered Chef cooking party at my house on Saturday and found out just how sharp the knifes are. It is not too bad but is a little painful to tat with right now.

But before this injury I have been tatting snowflake for a craft sale my girlfriend is having starting November 21st. I have finished a dozen of each snowflake above. And still need to tat 12 in white thread with red beads. The pattern is called "Threes Snowflake" by Jeanne Lugert.

I have also tatted a dozen of this snowflake. I found it on Georgia's site but they were learning to bead. I did not use beads in mine.

Last but least I have tatted about 6 of this bookmark in different colours. Its called Lacy bookmark by LaRae Mikulecky. I really enjoy this pattern because I can still watch TV and tat at the sometime.

Well tats all for now. The boy is home and looking for food. (If you have a teenager in your house you know what I mean!!!)

The tatting guild is holding a tatting exchange called "Fall-oween". And my tatted item arrived today. The pumpkin is jewelery (it has a pin on the back) and it came in this hand made card with tatted flowers on the front. I do love getting jewelery!!! Is it not cute!?! I'm going to pin it on my apron, that I wear for work, so all my customers can see it.

I know I have not posted for awhile and I'm sorry but I have been tatting my fingers to the bone, trying to get things ready for the craft sale in late November. I do not mind making the items but have a hard time with pricing things. I aways under price things and my friends get mad at me.

Man, can work get in the way of what you want to do. Really wanted to have posted earlier but time just got away from me.

I was lucky enough to have won 3 raffle draws that weekend in Cambridge. This book is one of my favorite prizes. I do not have any old collector tatting books so I guess this will be my start.
The other prizes were a little photo book with hand cream and a gift basket full of many lovely thing as threads, storage box, candy and a tatting shuttle.

I have been busy tatting some doilies, snowflakes and bookmarks for a sale my girl friend is having in November. Thought I should get some things done now before life gets to busy again.

I also purchased this book by Heather Lickley who has written for the Ring of Tatters about Elgiva Agnes Nicholls. A very interesting lady and a good read. Heather comes over from the UK each year for the Fringes workshops. She is a lovely lady.

Well that is all for now. But I know that when I push the publish post button I will think of something else I wanted to say. It will have to wait until next time.

Weekend Away....

WOW what a great weekend with the Fringe Element in Cambridge this past weekend!!!! Where do I begin...... I'm not a good highway driver and did not have to travel as far as some of the other people attend the tatting workshops but was able to make the trip over the city of Toronto to Cambridge in only 2 hours. I must have had a good tale wind behind me. I also think that I was not as nervous a last year because it was my second time going there.

The whole weekend was filled with fun, prizes and meeting up with old friends and making new ones. And of course shopping. As many of you know I have said before that there is little to no places to buy tatting threads or patterns. That is one of the reasons I really look forward to going to Cambridge.Here are my purchase from Karey. And she was nice enough to sign my books for me. I was able to buy some Lizbeth thread and have already tatted a bookmark from it.

I also bought more thread and a pattern book from Rita.
I do have more to share but have to start the roast for dinner and finish some dishes. So stay tuned for more about my weekend away.

Motif #25!!!!!!!!!!

I did it!!!!!! This is motif #25. I really put off finishing this piece because I knew that the last row would take a while to do. I always become intimidated with larger projects but I started the row on Saturday and didn't put any type of dead line to finish it by and I completed it on Monday night (about 6 hours). So now I have a Christmas gift finished!!!!

This doily is about 71/2 x 11. A nice size for a gift.

I have given myself a little time off from tatting so I can get ready for the Fringe Tatting weekend on September 25th and 26th.

I'm going to start the challenge again and am going to do motifs that are more difficult and new thing I have not tried.

Busy, busy, busy

Hello everyone!
Where does the time go!?!? We had the family get together and everyone had a good time. And the weather was wonderful. I have been busy getting my son ready for the first day of high school. He is ready but I'm not!!!!
I also have been busy tatting but not much time to blog so this one will be on the long side.

The pictures above and below are of my competition piece for my weekend away in Cambridge for the Fridge's "Fall into Tatting" starting on the 25 of September. We were given a metal napkin holder and we had to decorate it with some tatting. Mine is a planter box. I added flowers and bugs, so it looks a little like the one here at my house. I used some Pearl cotton, South Maid and other threads. I just checked and found out I miss counted my motifs so this one will be #21.

This is a pattern by Carolyn Groves I found on-line. I used South Maid thread for this piece. This will be motif #22.

I have also been busy making some hearts for the Fringe as it is the membership fee for the guild. One heart each year to help share and spread the word about tatting not being a lost art. As it stands now I think I'm good for about another 100 years. The first heart is Georgia's Heart Doily and the others are Celtic Valentine heart by Rachel Jackson this will be motif #23.

And last but not lest some small snowflakes. My girlfriend is going to have a Christmas sale in November at her house and wants me to make some things for the sale, so I started with these snowflakes. They are from the book "Tatted Snowflakes" by Vida Sunderman. These will be motif #24. Its been fun catching up with you and I promise it will not be so long between blogs. New neighbors in town...

This our new neighbor, a Merlin hawk. We believe that there is a family of 3 moved in. I'm hoping this is a good sign to all the work being done to clean up our lakes and streams. Cleaner streams mean more bugs, more bugs mean more birds and more birds mean more beautiful hawks. We have lived here for over 10 years and this is the first time we have seen this type of hawk.
I only have one more row to do on this doily. It is the "Occasional Doily" from the book Tatting Doilies and Edgings edited by Rita Weiss. I'm using DMC Cebelia size 30 colour no. 524. I hate to say this but this will be for a Christmas gift. I'll post and count it in the challenge when I'm finished.
This is a bracelet I'm trying out. A friend told me the info over the phone on how to do the beaded center split ring. I'm not sure if I got it right. Try, try, and try some more.

You can tell that summer has finally arrived in southern Ontario by all the rain we have received!!!! LOL This is the pay off. A beautiful rainbow.

I like how these earrings turned out. I did them in some metallic thread. I need to learn how to do Beaded Center Split Ring for needle tatting, so I can make a bracelet for these earrings.

This bracelet and earring set is made from Altin Basak size 30 just made with split rings. My hubby likes that I make my own jewelery. It saves him a lot of money.LOL This set will be motif #19.

I am still in the mood for jewelery. This will be motif #20. This is my version of a bookmark I received from a tatting friend but I used DMC nylon thread and made it with the hook and eyes for a bracelet for (dare I say) me. I am not in the habit of making things for myself but I think I'm getting use to it. Perhaps if I work out this pattern I'll share it at a later date.

Angels I have made...

These angels are made from some Southmaid size 10 and the cream ones are made in DMC size 30. I have had the pattern (By Teri Dusenbury) for some time but just didn't get around to making them until now. They do not look so good right off the needle but when stiffened they take on their true form. I'll count them as Motif #19. And they did not take long to make.

Not like my next angel I'm going to show you.

This angel is still a work in progress. I started this one about 14 years ago with help (of course) from my hubby. A true labour of love. I can not believe he will be off to high school this September. This picture was taken just before his Graduation night. Time goes much to fast.

Hi Everyone

WOW what a few months. On my last posting I reported I was having trouble with my hiatus hernia. Well it turns out it was not that but I was having a month and half of gall bladders attacks. I ended up with emergency surgery on May 9th to have the gall gladder out but of course things did not stop there. While the gall bladder was being removed 7 stones tried to get away and I ended up in a second hospital, two days after the surgery to have the escapees removed. A total of 3 days in hospital and missed out on Mother's Day too. Can't blame the doctor for the run away stones I just found out that there were over 200 stones in my gall bladder in total. OUGH!!!!!! But now I much better and been busy tatting and doing a little knitting too.

This is motif #18 I have taken a picture frame pattern and worked it into a necklace that is V necked. I do not usually make things for myself but with a anniversary dance and my sons grad. coming up I wanted something nice for me to wear. And with what I've been though I deserve it.
Right???!!!???

Hi everyone. I know it has been some time between blogs but I must say I have a good reason. First my boss ended up in hospital with a kidney stone that took over 4 days to get rid of. I sat with her at our local hospital for 2 days then they decided to sent her a different hospital where they blasted the stone.

After her recovery, it was my turn to end up in hospital. My poor husband thought I was trying to be funny on April 1st, waking him at 4 am to take me into the hospital. I'm funny but not that funny. My hiatus hernia is giving me much trouble and I still do not know when things will truly be back to normally. I'm seeing my doctor this week and a specialist in June.

As you can see I did get a little tatting done between hospital visits. This is my first try at tatting with two colours of thread. It is an edge pattern from a reprint book of Anne Orr. This I'm counting as motif #17.

Hello Everyone!!! Yes I'm still here. Been very busy with projects and helping with a friend who ended up in hospital will kidney stones. Ouch!!!

First I must say that I.... (I mean my son) received an A+ on the plant cell project. Yay!!!!!

Last night I was talking to a tatting friend and she was thanking me for a card I sent to her for Spring. It had a garden fence with flowers and a Celtic butterfly on it. And it got me thinking that I did not have anything for St. Patty's Day. So I took the link chain rings from the center of the butterfly and added dimples to them and came up with these Celtic clover leafs. This was the first time I have done dimples. They are made in DMC size 30 and make a nice pair of earrings.

You may think your seeing this again but it is only the center you seeing again. It is from my motif #8. I have taken this and added to it. I added 16 of the mini motifs and added an outer edge to finish is off. I'm very happy how it turned out. Here's hoping my sister-in-law likes it. It's going to be one of her birthday gifts.

Ladies and Gentlemen The Incredible Edible Plant Cell!!!!!! This was my sons science project about the plant cell. The doughnut hole is the nucleus, the icing is the cell wall and the baked outer crust is the cell membrane etc... It was fun doing the project with him. Soon he will be in high school and not need me anymore. OHHHH! Now I'm sad, I think I need to eat some cake!!!LOL

This is motif #15 made in Alkin Basit size 30 and is pattern called St. Pat. (My favorite) I added 2 row of my own making it about 5 1/4" is size.
This doily is about 8 1/2" in size made from Royal cotton size 30. The pattern is from the book called "The Tatter's Treasure Chest". I did a few extra rows to make it larger. I find that I tat with the T.V on and very much lose track of the time but for fun I watched the clock and could not believe that this doily took about 22 hours to do. I could get so much more tatting done if I did not have to sleep at night. LOL. OH WELL!!!!!!!! Later

This little lady will be motif #12. She is Nancy Tracy's pattern made in DMC 30. As I was tatting her I felt the weather changing maybe by tatting spring things it will make spring come faster. (I hope!!) We have been enjoying some beautiful weather here in southern Ontario with more to come later this week. I do not mind the rain because it washes the snow away.

Now who doesn't love a teddy bear. I think I still have some of my teddy bears from when I was little. (Only a few years ago!!)LOL

This only seems right for my #14th motif and February 14th being this Saturday to tat Georgia's Heart Doily by Georgia Seitz in DMC 30. It gave my the chance to practice split rings.

Motif #9, 10 &11

If you have read my blog in the past you will know I'm a up beat person. So I'm sorry this entry is a little cold. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF SNOW. UNCLE ALREADY. I would have loved to have so much more to show you in tatted items but I have been busy shoveling snow. Even my dog has had enough. Here she is looking for a spot to pee.
My husband had to snowplow a path in the back yard for her.

I think I may have broken some tatting rules when tatting little Ringtrim here. I have never tatted with two colours before and being a needle tatter it was a little harder to follow the pattern. This guy will be motif #9.
He still turned out pretty good. I used DMC size 30.

This pattern is from Debbie Arnolds site ds9designs. He is going to be a birthday gift for someone who is from the U.S. and now lives here in Canada. I made him in size 10 thread.

This is motif #11 and it's Nancy Tracy's pattern and made in DMC size 30. I like to call it my heart of gold.

Little tatting (I mean small!!!)

I do mean small. I'm not use to tatting with size 80 thread but thought I would give it a try. I think it is a little harder to needle tat with small threads. I do have an ultra thin needle for this type of thin thread but I find it is hard to hold on. This will be Motif #6
With a lot of people tatting hearts I thought I would put my one cent in. I did make two of these hearts for a pair of earrings for myself. They are from Rachel Jackson pattern called Celtic Valentine Heart Earrings.

I also tatted this heart in Altin Basak.
This will be Motif #7.

This doily is called "That Medallion Again". It makes you go back to the first medallion we all learned when we first started to tat. This will be Motif #8

And I must say, I'm so spoiled. When visiting my best friend Pat today she gave me this beautiful table cloth. She bought it about 25 years ago at an estate sale and knew that by giving it to me it would be treasured. It will be very very treasured, much like her friendship!!!!! Thanks Pat.

Motif #5

I have not been able to tat much lately. My son is looking into which high school he would like to attend this September. We have been going to Open houses and reading schedules and fulling out paper work. I did have a girl friend ask me to tat a doily for her but she did not want the middle tatted because it is to go under a lamp. So I cut out a piece of fabric and add a tatted edge. The final measurement is 10". The only problem is that she liked it so much she now would like 3 more.

I'm still tatting snowflakes and am now thinking I should stop because our little town just received 24" more of snow and maybe it my fault.LOL

Snowflake Motif #4

I love having snow days from work. On Wednesday we had about 10 cm of snowflakes with freezing rain. With my house work done, laundry finished, hot chocolate at my side and tatting needle ready I was off and going. I joined the band wagon and tatted Jon's Quantiesque snowflake. I know snowflakes are not this colour but I like how they go together. I really enjoyed tatting this snowflake. Thanks Jon!!!!

The greeny yellow doily is one of my favorite patterns by Heather Johnston called St. Pat's. The thread is a HDT I purchased from Karey at the Fridge Elements Tatting weekend workshop which took place September 2008.

Motif #3 for the Challenge

This motif is a square version of the snowflake from the same book. I'm hoping to keep adding to it to make a table runner. (This may take some time!!!) I should be able to get more done today as my son and I both have a snow day from school and work. When he hopes for something it sometimes comes true.LOL

Hi Everyone Now I know that Christmas is over but I still like tatting snowflakes!!! I'm working on (dare I say) snowflakes for 2009 Christmas gifts!! The pattern I'm enjoying is from Rozella Linden book Easy Tatting. Seeing that southern Ontario will be getting more snow soon I guess snowflakes are not that bad to be tatting. Stay warm!!!

Here is my first entry for the 25 Motif Challenge. I have been tatting for about 10 years and have limited resources in the area I live in. Hope you enjoy some of my work. This motif is the Celtic Style Christmas Wreath by Birgit Phelps. I tatted it for a lady I know who is from Irland.
