Hope you had a good one!!

Hello to one and all

I hope all moms in Tat Land had a good Mothers Day!! Mine was nice and quiet!! Hubby was out of town and that gave me time to tat!!

This is the finished center table scarf. The whole edging is made up of chains only. A little different for me.

Here is a close up of the corner showing the edging better!! I found the pattern on the tatting index page but it had no name on. Only a diagram and the title name was ``gunby``. I did change the second row by added stitches to the side work. I used size 20 DMC Cebelia.

And of course my son picked me up a plant for Mothers Day and a chocolate bar. (Boy, does he know his mother or what!!)

This a new doily I am working on!! It is from one of the books I received from Jane last week! The thread is size 30 Coats. I am only on row 6 of 9 and then there is a finishing edging to it all. This is going to take me a while to do!!

Here is a question for you!! How old does something have to be, before it called vintage? I know that the lady who gave me this thread had bought it back in the early 8o`s and I am not sure if it still available. Let me know! I was just wondering!

Tats all for now!! Back to tatting on this doily! More later.
Tatfully Yours Kelly

  1. Ah, I look forward to seeing the replies to this question. Vintage and antique are always a puzzle to me. I consider MYSELF 'vintage heading towards antique'!!!!

  2. My understanding is that anything over 25 years old is considered antique. So you know what that makes me. :-))) I suspect it depends on the item but I would call thread purchased in the 80's vintage. It's at least 25 years old.

  3. My two cents: it is common practice to define "antique", as applying to objects at least 100 years old.

    Vintage - –adjective
1 of or pertaining to wines or winemaking.
    being of a specified vintage

2 denoting something from the past of high quality, especially something representing the best of its kind:a vintage Sherlock Holmes adventure

    That's what I think!

Now - very nice edging, Kelly! Lovely chains. Gotta get the girl a shuttle now!

  7. I was always taught that anything atleast 25 years old can be considered an antique, if it is of value in some way relating to history or money, if it is relating to family sentiment, it is an heirloom, if it is relating to religion it is a relic or icon, if it is none of the above, it is just old, and possibly junk. Old thread like yours is historical, and if it is high quality, then it would be vintage, because it would be antique, but it would be of a greater quality of antique.

Many antiques can be worth more unrestored and vintage if they are left intact with natural ware and tare on them, if they are in good condition, and of high quality, but not abused damage. Never clean or restore an antique without seeing a specialist first.
you could be losing history, or literally thousands of dollars in value right down the cleaning pot :)

Said value does not have to mean personal value to you or I, or, it can. lol, I hope I made sense.

I absolutely love both your edging and doily :) You Have very nice even stitches and very pretty work :)
